New York History Forum: Aoelian Hall 1914

Posted by: Martin (martinaxis@ThisIsToPreventSpam-530-RemoveThis.aol.com) on 4 Sep 2003 at 5:20:34 AM

I am the chairman of a local local history society located in Barry, South Wales UK.

At present I am looking into the activities of the Romilly Boys School Choir from my town that toured both Canada and Northern America in 1914.

From records I hold, I know that were at sea and aboard a ship of the White Star Line, called 'The Baltic'heading for NY on April 1st 1914.

Again, from my records. I know that the first public performance they gave to the good people of the United States, was in the 'Aeolian Hall and the event was sponsored by 'The Welsh Methodist Church'. What I do not have, is the date of when this event took place. Nor, at presnt do I have any photographs or drawings of the hall in question.

In consequence, any assistance from anyone in the know in this forum would be much appreciated.

Firstly, I am wanting to obtain an image of the Old Aoelian Hall aoround the period that boys choir toured.

Secondly. Would some kind person be willing to offer some voluntary assistance to in my search for information Re the the performance of the Romilly Boys Choir?

Perhaps a review of their performance from one or more of your local newspapers as has survived?

As the choir was at sea on the 1st of April. Would suggest that their concert in NY would have been in the month of April as the Great Liners took days rather than months to make the crossing from Liverpool to New York.

All offers of help greatly appreciated.

Kind regards
M

Spammers do this with automated "bots" that constantly search the Web looking for e-mail addresses. Since you're a human being, not a bot, you can easily obtain the real address by removing the text that says "ThisisToPreventSpam-XYZ-RemoveThis." including the random number XYZ and the period at the end. For example, <whitten@ThisIsToPreventSpam-123-RemoveThis.despammed.com> would become <chris-(@)-interesting.com>.
